www.californiaoutdoorreport.com runs NorCal Sierra Outdoor Report and is the data controller for the personal data described here. That means we decide why and how it is used.
What we collect and why
- Account details (email, display name, login details, or your Google sign-in): to create and secure your account. Legal basis: providing the service to you (contract).
- Field reports you post (area, category, text): to show them to other members. Legal basis: contract.
- Subscription status (plan, renewal date): to unlock paid features. Legal basis: contract.
- Usage and device data (IP address, browser, pages viewed, errors): to keep the app secure, prevent fraud and fix problems. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
- Support messages: to answer you. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
Card and payment details are collected by Paddle, not by us.
Who we share it with
- Service providers that host and run the app (hosting, database, sign-in, error reporting).
- Paddle, our Merchant of Record, to sell subscriptions, manage billing, handle tax and send invoices.
- Professional advisers such as lawyers and accountants.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
We do not sell your personal data. Some providers may process data outside your country; where needed we rely on safeguards like standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep account data while your account is open, and delete or anonymize it within a reasonable time after you close it, unless the law requires us to keep it longer (for example tax records).
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under California law and the GDPR), you can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, object to or limit its use, and withdraw consent. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. We respond within one month.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, including encryption in transit and access controls, to protect your data.
Cookies and storage
We use only essential browser storage to keep you signed in and remember settings. We do not use advertising cookies. You can clear storage in your browser settings, but you will be signed out.
